EDITORIAL: Advance New York voting laws, but carefully

In the past few years, New York has made significant changes in its laws to make voting much more accessible to many more residents.

But in the wake of issues raised during the 2020 presidential election casting doubts on election security and validity of our outcomes, it’s important that any new advances the state makes in voting access also ensure the security of the ballots and are able to withstand legal scrutiny.

As one of the first acts of the new legislative session, Senate Democrats have introduced a package of proposals aimed at solidifying our state’s commitment to the right to vote. It’s a welcome approach. But as they say, the devil is in the details.
