Stormont has just three months to show it can deliver

This week our MLAs returned to the blue benches at Stormont. The summer recess is over and, theoretically, it is back to business.

Last year, when MLAs returned from recess, much was made of just how threadbare the legislative agenda was on the hill.

With non-binding motions promising the sun, the moon, and the stars being thrown around the chamber like confetti, and a lack of meaningful follow-through, there is a mounting sense of frustration among the public at the lack of delivery.

Last week, a report by the think-tank Pivotal criticised the delivery from the Executive since devolution returned in February 2024, noting few improvements, and more damningly, it said: “There are also significant concerns about how the Executive plans to tackle some of our biggest long-term challenges.”
