The north does not have an immigration problem. It has a racism problem that needs called out by unionists
A bumper weekend for racism and sectarianism in the north.
The Moygashel morons in action again, replacing their racist banner; a derelict Shankill Road gospel hall refurbished as a supermarket being burnt out; and masked yahoos jeering a peaceful march.
The only unionist politician who came out of all that well was the DUP’s Brian Kingston, who was genuinely shocked and appalled by the racist arson at the supermarket.
He said the arsonists have “done a great disservice to efforts to regenerate the Shankill Road”.
Brian Feeney: The north does not have an immigration problem. It has a racism problem
He added: “Some people have gone out of their way to engender opposition to this, including intimidation and spreading false information online.”
The BBC reported a month ago a video circulating about “foreign food” likely to be sold and warning about “an influx of people” into the Shankill. Heaven forfend.
Lack of education, ignorance and, judging by the graffiti plastered in unionist districts, semi-literate stupidity all play a part, but so does lack of leadership from unionist politicians.
In Moygashel, one nationalist politician commented it was in the most diverse population area in the north. It isn’t. That’s Dungannon.
According to the last census in 2021, Moygashel was 93% Protestant, 2% Catholic, and 5% ‘other’........
