US military disables oil tanker in Gulf of Oman, drawing pushback from India
The U.S. military disabled an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday after it said the vessel violated the ongoing U.S. naval blockade, the U.S. Central Command announced on Wednesday, but the kinetic action has drawn pushback from India, which said three Indian crew members are now missing.
A U.S. aircraft fired precision munitions into the Palau-flagged M/T Settebello engine room after the crew repeatedly did not comply with directions from U.S. forces, according to Centcom. The ship, which is 182.5 meters long and 32.2 meters wide, according to MarineTraffic.com, was attempting to transport oil from Iran.
But the firing on Settebello has prompted scrutiny from India, whose foreign ministry condemned the attack and stated that out of the 24 Indian crew onboard, 21 have been rescued thus far.
