Chan, Wiener face off for Pelosi House seat in San Francisco

California state Sen. Scott Wiener (D) and San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, who enjoys former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) endorsement, advanced in Tuesday’s primary and will go head-to-head for the retiring lawmaker’s seat representing San Francisco in November, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Wiener and Chan, who is also running as a Democrat, defeated nine other candidates for spots in the November election. California operates a “jungle primary,” meaning that all candidates running for an office are listed on the same ballot, regardless of party. That primary structure means two Democrats or two Republicans can advance to a November election.
