More than 440,000 people became millionaires in the US last year

(NewsNation) — More than 440,000 people in the U.S. became millionaires in 2025 as strong stock market gains boosted Americans’ wealth, according to a new UBS report.

That works out to about 1,200 new millionaires a day, accounting for nearly half of the global increase last year, the Swiss bank found.

But the rise in U.S. millionaires masks how unevenly wealth has grown.

Since 2020, average wealth per adult in the U.S. has risen nearly 10 percent, while median wealth has fallen almost 20 percent once inflation is taken into account, UBS said.

The divergence highlights how rising asset values can mint hundreds of thousands of new millionaires without necessarily making the typical American wealthier.

“While global wealth is likely to continue growing, outcomes will increasingly depend on access to investable assets and the ability to diversify, shaping how widely future gains will be shared,” the bank wrote.

Even after factoring in property values, financial assets such as stocks and bonds made up nearly 79 percent of gross wealth in the U.S., among the highest shares of any country UBS measured.
