When you are caught lying, you have a couple of options.

You can come clean and admit that you lied, which is the best course of action, always. You can come clean but then lie about why you lied. Or, you can stoop lower: lie again to cover up the initial lie, gaslight galore.

Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer chose the last option Sunday when he was forced to address one of the worst political scandals in modern history: the concerted effort to hide President Joe Biden’s sputtering, rapidly disintegrating mind from the American public.

In February 2024, Schumer addressed Biden’s mental acuity after special counsel Robert Hur released his damning report on whether the president mishandled classified documents. Among other things, Hur detailed Biden’s mental decline and memory struggles and pretty much concluded that he would not charge the president because he was too frail and doddering, unfit to stand trial.
