Potential transfer targets in Swindon Town defender search

Swindon Town started to build a sound defensive base last season, but they are going to need reinforcements to start a promotion charge.

Only one team in the top half of League Two conceded more goals than Swindon last season, but like most things about the campaign, it was an area which saw big improvements in the second half.

Prior to 2025, Swindon let in 37 goals, but that fell to 26 after the turn of the calendar year, adding to this, eight of the 11 clean sheets also came since January 1.

In this series: Do Swindon need to target a goalkeeper in the summer window?

At present, Town have a back five which could feasibly start in Ollie Clarke, Will Wright, Ryan Delaney, Joel McGregor, and Billy Kirkman, but beyond that, they are slightly short of experienced players, and adding to that will be important.

If I were in charge, then I would be looking to add a central defender, preferably a left-sided one, and a left-back to provide competition to Kirkman, possibly with experience to create a point of difference.
