Views on failed bid to scrap Swindon council's net zero target

Adver readers reacted to a failed bid to overturn Wiltshire's net zero targets.

Reform councillors put forward a motion calling on Wiltshire Council to overturn its 2019 climate crisis declaration.

Defending the council's position Cllr Paul Sample, cabinet member for the environment and climate, urged members to "look at the facts; not something that has been made up by GB News or Donald Trump."

The motion was defeated by 45 votes to 23, with 19 abstentions.

Martin Higgins said: “Good. We have to have a target to work to. It enables businesses to plan with certainty about regulation. Indecision and flip flopping is not a sensible option.”

Cyril Wood said: “Ask David Attenborough what he thinks.”

Neil Buckley said: “No talk about what was and wasn't attainable, what was the detail? What was planned, how much would it cost the tax payer and what benefits do we get for and against, also what's the alternative?”
