There is no doubt that the ITV series Inspector Morse is a classic.
Based on the books by Colin Dexter it achieved immense popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, in large part due to the wonderful performance of John Thaw as the intellectual, irascible, music-loving romantically-challenged detective, as well as the Oxford setting and high production values.
As a fan of the show, as well as its even better prequel Endeavour, I was intrigued to see how it would be brought to the stage.
The indications were promising.
