Transamerica Pyramid's light show didn't come without drama

East Bay residents, people walking on the Embarcadero and those entering San Francisco on the Bay Bridge last night were met with an unusual, dazzling display — an imposing light show, reminiscent of an ’80s video game, spanning one whole side of the Transamerica Pyramid.

The spectacle, which began at 8:30 p.m., featured more than 1 kilowatt of high-powered, multicolor lasers, and was just one part of the grand reopening of the emblem of the city. Those in attendance were also privy to a show by the San Francisco-based electronic music duo Thievery Corporation, according to a press release.

Completed in 1972, the Transamerica Pyramid is a bit late in celebrating its 50 years of dominating San Francisco’s skyline — it was the tallest building in the city until 2018, when Salesforce Tower took the crown — but it’s made a shining return after a costly renovation that now brings some art accessible to the........
