AI and the 'Many–One' Inversion
Human development moves from one mind toward an encounter with many others.
AI moves in the opposite direction, turning vast human plurality into a singular voice.
When we think with AI, some of the intellectual middle can disappear from view.
Today's idea is about a curiously simple relationship between human and artificial intelligence. It's almost too simple, and captures something that might align with "first principles" thinking. A human mind begins as one, a singular experience. We enter the world from a particular point of view and gradually discover that other minds exist. We do this by reading books, learning from teachers, arguing with friends, and along the way, absorbing a culture. These "vital encounters" become part of us. And the mind does it so completely that years later we may not even remember where a self-defining idea came from.
I think we can capture this rather simply.
Now artificial intelligence approaches this from the opposite direction. Large language models are trained on the "voices" of millions of people and shaped by this eclectic human........
