How to Biohack Your Brain
Research shows oxygen, cellular energy, and electromagnetic therapies strengthen the body's repair systems.
Our studies and others show that ancient practices like meditation and breathwork are biohacking, too.
The future of healing may be a combination of both new and ancient modalities.
A few years ago, I had a health crisis that had me lying down and unable to really function. I had extreme chronic fatigue, low energy, and even felt like my memory and cognition were not what they once were. A doctor offered medication to mask my symptoms. I declined—not out of contrarianism, but because I understood enough about physiology to know that suppressing signals rarely addresses their source. I was worried I'd burn my body out further by masking symptoms and have to pay a steeper price later.
That's when, through a friend, I discovered hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy. I was really surprised to find out that not only did my energy come back, but so did my ability to be creative. In fact, I wrote my second book, SOVEREIGN, in six months.
Alongside the hyperbaric sessions, I was also using IV therapies like NAD and Niagen, compounds said to support cellular energy production and brain function. Together, these two approaches—experimental as they felt at the time—seemed to be giving my body the raw materials it needed to repair itself. Or was it all placebo?
Evaluating the Science Behind Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
As a research scientist, I needed to understand this better. I found that by delivering concentrated oxygen to the brain and reducing neuroinflammation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to improve cognition, memory, and focus. A 2024 review in Frontiers in Neurology described it as an emerging neuromodulatory technique with applications across a range of neurological conditions, and a systematic review in Neuropsychological Review found........
