POWER in the twenty-first century is no longer determined by military strength alone. Economic resilience, technological superiority, intelligence, diplomatic influence, strategic geography, indigenous defence production and credible partnerships are integral to national security. Pakistan’s defence architecture is, therefore, evolving towards greater integration of military preparedness with diplomacy, technology, economic capacity and strategic partnerships. The emerging trilateral framework with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, together with the evolving role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, reflects a broader effort to enhance Pakistan’s deterrence, strategic autonomy and ability to shape the regional security environment. Institutional reforms of 2026 have further strengthened coordination among the armed services, with greater emphasis on integrated defence, intelligence, technology and strategic decision-making.

Pakistan’s recent security experience has demonstrated that credible deterrence requires more than conventional military strength. The defence forces have had to respond to conventional threats, terrorism, cyber risks, drones and a rapidly changing regional environment. The professional response during Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanun Marsoos has reinforced the importance of preparedness, jointness, intelligence superiority, technological adaptation and national resolve.
