A nation under strain: Governance, economy & political instability

COUNTRIES with bad governance, corrupt rulers and weak economies often face deep poverty, social unrest and mass migration. Without major reforms, these nations risk state failure, ongoing debt crises and long-term instability that leave their citizens struggling to survive. Major Risks and Challenges such countries face are deep poverty, social unrest, mass migration and ultimately total collapse. Money is stolen or wasted instead of building schools, hospitals and roads. Angry citizens often protest against unfair treatment and high prices. Many young and skilled workers leave the country to find safety and jobs elsewhere and ultimately weak states can turn into failed states where the government loses control of its land.

Several countries are facing severe economic contraction or collapse, most notably South Sudan, Equatorial Guinea and Venezuela. South Sudan is facing extreme contraction due to violent conflict, severe flooding and a crashing oil revenue sector that caused output to plummet by over 4%.Equatorial Guinea is experiencing a sharp GDP reduction of over 6% driven by declining domestic energy production and structural financial challenges. Venezuela is grappling with a prolonged multi-year depression, hyperinflation and heavy international sanctions impacting its crucial oil industry and our own country is not exception to this enormous challenge.
