THE empowerment of women has become one of the defining challenges of the modern world, shaping the future of societies, economies, and political systems. In the OIC, where more than one-quarter of the world’s population lives, women’s socioeconomic and political participation remains a critical issue with far-reaching implications. While many OIC nations have made significant progress in expanding women’s access to education, employment, entrepreneurship and political representation, persistent cultural, institutional and economic barriers continue to limit the full realization of women’s potential. Nations that increase women’s participation in the workforce and decision-making processes experience stronger economic growth, improved governance and greater social stability. Across many Muslim-majority countries, women remain underrepresented in political institutions, corporate leadership, scientific fields and financial systems. United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkiye, and several other countries have demonstrated that women can play a significant role in governance, diplomacy, business and innovation when opportunities are created.

True empowerment requires women’s meaningful participation in policy-making, economic planning and leadership positions.
