Sharif’s strategic visit to China
At a time when global politics is undergoing rapid transformation, Premier Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China has reflected not merely the continuation of traditional friendship between Islamabad and Beijing, but the strengthening of a long-term strategic partnership with deep regional and international implications. The visit demonstrated that Pakistan remains a pivotal player in Asia’s evolving geopolitical and geoeconomic landscape.
Most remarkable feature of the visit was the reaffirmation of unwavering political trust between the two countries. Pakistan and China have historically described their friendship as “higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans,” this visit translated these symbolic phrases into concrete strategic cooperation. Multiple agreements and MoUs covering infrastructure, trade, technology, agriculture, energy, industrial development and security cooperation highlighted the expanding scope of bilateral engagement. Economically, the visit proved highly productive for Pakistan. The revival and expansion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) emerged as the centerpiece of discussions.
