WATCH: Sewage overflow gushes into city centre river

The sewage, which seemed to be coming from under St James Quay was due to a blocked sewer - connected to 12 houses -was spilling into a section of the river Wensum frequented by paddleboarders, fishermen and swimmers.

It was noticed by concerned locals and fishermen who reported it to Anglian Water and the Environment Agency.

CATASTROPHIC DECLINE

Nicholas Richard Hodges, a local fisherman who reported the incident said: "You get people swimming just around the corner, that was what prompted me.

"It was a milky stream of foul-smelling water drifting downstream.

"The decline of the Wensum is catastrophic.
