City drivers facing gridlock after roads closed due to roadworks

Drivers have been caught in long tailbacks on the A47 after the route to the N&N, along Colney Lane East, in Cringleford was completely shut as part of ongoing works to Colney Lane roundabout.

The work, which started on January 6, is due to last for three weeks and diversions have been set up.

But these have pushed more motorists on already traffic-heavy routes along the Southern Bypass of the A47, between Newmarket Road and Watton Road.

Additional works are being carried out at the Grapes Hill end of Dereham Road to reduce congestion and improve the inbound bus lane, which has led to more tailbacks.

A lane is also closed along Dereham Road, just after Marl Pit Lane, as Anglian Water carry out utility repairs and maintenance work.

To add to the chaos a section of Newmarket Road, a main road into the city centre, along with parts of nearby Bracondale Road and Dover Street have also been........
