Leaders at Norfolk County Council have confirmed that its work to come up with fresh options for the scheme have been hampered by a Department for Transport review.

The Labour government had given an in-principle commitment of £1m to the authority for an options appraisal for the project, which has long been a priority for Conservative-controlled County Hall.

But the government has now announced a review of funding for such schemes, which means that money might not be forthcoming.

The council was spending £425,000 of its own money to explore new options, but without the full funding commitment, progress has been hindered.
