Why do babies walk early or late? Genetics holds the key
Research carried out at the University of Surrey shows that there is a clear link between genes and the age of children when they start walking. The researchers looked at the DNA of more than 70,000 infants and found that 11 genes are associated with this milestone. The study published in Nature Human Behaviour revealed that heredity accounts for roughly a quarter of the differences in the timing of when babies start walking. This suggests that some kids are simply born to walk early or late in the same way that children are born tall or short.
