New UPI rules from April 1: Key changes for users, banks, and apps
New Delhi: Starting July 31, 2025, UPI users in India will see a limit on how often they can check balances, raise autopay mandates, or even request a list of their linked bank accounts. This comes after a new directive by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which has asked all banks and payment service providers (PSPs) to moderate how often certain APIs are accessed.
The move is aimed at cutting down unnecessary system load, especially during peak hours, and ensuring UPI services remain smooth and reliable for millions of users across the country.
