The theme of the 76th Republic Day this year was Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas and keeping the flag high of India at the Kartavya Path the Indian Defence forces showcased their strength while grandly displaying India’s military power in the Republic Day parade. It included special marching contingents, missiles and various indigenous weapons.

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto was the chief guest at the function witnessing a battlefield scenario with the indigenous Arjun battle tank, Tejas fighter aircraft and modern light helicopters demonstrating simultaneous operations on land, water and air. 40 aircraft took part in the Air Force flypast which comprised 22 fighter jets, 11 transport aircraft and 7 helicopters. Apache, Rafale and Globe Master were part of this flypast.

This show of India’s military might at the R Day parade speaks a lot about PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector. India achieved the highest-ever growth in indigenous defence production in value terms during the financial year 2023-24, driven by the successful implementation of Government policies and programmes led by PM Modi.

It is worth noting here that there was a time when India’s defence sector was dependent on other countries for every small and big need, however, the Modi government’s vision of making India self-reliant in the defence sector ensured that the amount of defence production increased to a record level of Rs 1,27,265 crore, representing an impressive growth of about 174 per cent from Rs 46,429 crore in 2014-15.

Prominently on display was the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) leading innovations for national security duty as part of the drive to empower India with cutting-edge technologies and achieve ‘self-reliance’ in the defence sector. Also on display was India’s military power with Brahmos, Pinak and Akash along with the army’s combat surveillance system ‘Sanjay’ and the DRDO’s surface-to-surface tactical missile ‘Pralay’.

The awe inspiring........
