Delhi Polls: Purvanchal voters hold key to Delhi's power, parties can't ignore them
As Delhi Assembly Elections are getting closer, the political temperature is rising in the National Capital. The BJP, AAP and Congress are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters and have already announced sops like free electricity, water, scholarships, medical insurance, and several monetary schemes for women, youth etc to attract them. Apart from this, all parties are keeping an eye on their core vote bank and also trying to woo the sections that hold the key to power.
Apart from Dalits, and Muslims who are a powerful vote bank, one section that stands out amid this political battle is the Purvanchali voters. The voters of UP, Bihar and Jharkhand have become the centre of Delhi assembly elections after a statement given by former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Voters from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand form a powerful force when it comes to vote share on 27 seats of Delhi. This is the reason why all the parties are eyeing them and as the February 5 date of voting nears both the BJP and AAP have come face to face over the voters of Purvanchal. It may be noted that since last month, a war of words has been going on between both parties regarding adding and deleting their names in the voter list. BJP has also started making it an election issue by linking Kejriwal’s statement to the insult of the people of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The Hindi belt has been known to make or break the chances of any party in the Lok Sabha elections and thus in Delhi too the dominance of Purvanchalis of the Hindi belt of Bihar, UP and Jharkhand are continuously increasing rapidly. In Delhi around 22 per cent of voters are from Purvanchal who play an important role in the victory and defeat in 27 assembly seats.
