Mumbai: Karva Chauth holds immense cultural and religious significance in the Hindu tradition. Considered one of the most important fasts for married women, it is observed with great devotion across India. On this day, women dress in solah shringar (sixteen adornments) and keep a day-long fast, praying for the long life, health, and prosperity of their husbands.
Falling in the month of Kartik, Karva Chauth usually arrives 10 to 11 days before Diwali. The fast is observed on the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi tithi, and women break their fast only after sighting the moon and offering arghya (water) to it with an earthen pot, known as karva.
