Tamil Nadu Charts A Different Path

Tamil Nadu’s State Education Policy 2025 is as much a firm assertion of federalism as it is a framework for much-needed reforms to school curricula, skill building and student development for a new age. Historically a torchbearer for linguistic rights, the state has championed the study of two languages in schools with a strong emphasis on English and vehemently opposed the three-language formula that includes Hindi. In 2006, Tamil Nadu also passed the Tamil Learning Act, mandating the language as a subject in all school boards in the state.
