Reflections On The US And Israel War Against Iran – OpEd

The escalation in global tensions caused by the war between Iran on one side and Israel and United States on the other led a ground swell of information and manipulated content with Pakistan at the forefront. Though Islamabad has gone overboard denying this charge, evidence available in the public domain convincingly suggests the same.

The war, which unexpectedly is already into its fourth week, is raising enough concerns politically across Asia, especially in West Asia (the Middle East) and South Asia, due to a combination of warfare by proxy, destruction of energy infrastructure and threats to maritime security.

Think tanks like the Brookings Institution have warned that this conflict along with the Russia-Ukraine War and over 50 active armed conflicts in Africa, has the scary potential of exacerbating socio-economic vulnerabilities across the world, and in particular, threatens supply chains and imports to Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia.

The question that surfaces for us to ponder upon is whether Pakistan is involved, even if remotely or indirectly, and if so, why? Social media platforms like X, YouTube and Facebook are circulating information alleging Pakistan extension of clandestine support to Iran, which in turn, has led Islamabad to object to what it describes as  “most viral content of disinformation” against it.

Statements and videos on social media are claiming that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have directly warned and threatened Pakistan with severe consequences if it does not stop interfering in the Middle East crisis.
