A proposal to build three poultry units to house 100,335 broiler chickens in Shadingfield, near Beccles, has been discussed by East Suffolk Council planning committee..

The plans, which was put forward by Merrells Growers in 2019, had received more than 1,700 objections from those living nearby, with concerns raised over the traffic safety, smell, and noise.

One neighbour feared that the village would be "plagued with flies and chicken detritus" if the plans were approved.

And now the committee members have rejected the application following the planning officer's recommendation, due to the impact it would have on nearby heritage assets and ancient woodland.
