Officers investigating the incident at Thorpe St Andrew School have been given an extra 12 hours to question a 15-year-old boy.

Police were called to the school in Laundry Lane just before 10.30am on Wednesday (March 11) following reports that a teenage girl had been stabbed.

The school was put into a full lockdown and armed police quickly swarmed the campus, hunting for the suspect, who is believed to have fled the premises by jumping over the fence.

A 15-year-old white British boy, believed to be a pupil at the school, was arrested about an hour later in nearby Pound Lane on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was taken to Wymondham Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody.

The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene, including fire and ambulance.

The victim, who is believed to be in Year 10, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

A police cordon remains in place in Pound Lane as officers continue their enquiries.
