The John Innes Centre and the Sainsbury Laboratory are embarking on a joint programme - with a £317 million investment - the Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) programme.

Its plan is to create a net zero carbon-ready laboratory, a "ground-breaking" plant and innovation hub at the Norwich Research Park in Colney Lane which is the first phase of the NGI programme.

The application, submitted to Broadland District Council last week, is seeking "the demolition of existing buildings and a proposal for a Research and Development Facility known as ‘Technology Platform 1’.
