Plans for two more McDonald's restaurants spark obesity fears
Nutritionist Catherine Jeans said she is concerned that the new locations, which will take the fast-food giant’s presence in the city to 11, will fuel unhealthy eating habits.
She said: “These foods have been linked to a high risk of many health problems including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, poor mental health and create poor dietary habits."
McDonald’s has hit back at these concerns saying "we continue to evolve our menu to ensure our customers can make informed choices".
The company added: "89pc of the items in our core menu contain under 500 calories."
MCDONALD’S NORWICH EXPANSION
McDonald’s currently has nine restaurants in Norwich and will be opening another location in Mousehold Heath this summer.
The fast-food giant has also confirmed that it is planning to open another outlet in the former Poundland store in Riverside Retail Park by the end of autumn.
