Just hours after this newspaper reported on gym-goers’ anger at how they had been treated by David Lloyd following the closure of its pools, sauna and steam room they received an email saying their monthly membership fee would be reduced by 20pc.

The club’s u-turn comes after it originally said it continues to offer “good value” despite members saying its “main draw” had been closed for a month.
