Military veteran Martin McConnell was 58 when he died during an event at Tibenham Airfield on July 23, 2023 after he overshot the runway on his 1,300cc motorcyle.

An inquest into his death, which is scheduled to last five days, resumed on Monday, during which a jury was sworn in to hear evidence surrounding the tragedy.

They heard how Mr McConnell, who lived in Mansfield, had been taking part in an event organised by Terminal Velocity Events Ltd at the airfield between Wymondham and Diss.

It was part of a series of speed trial events organised by the company which, the court heard, are largely aimed at car drivers but do occasionally accommodate motorcycles.

Mr McConnell was one of the motorcyclists participating and was attempting to break the land speed record for the site, which was 204mph.
