They have been left angered and frustrated by the licensing measures introduced by Great Yarmouth Borough Council (GYBC), which they say are costing them thousands of pounds.

Some have accused the authority of grouping them in the same boat as illegal house of multiple occupancy (HMOs) owners, whom they allege are not abiding by the strict rules.

The landlords say a wedge is being driven between them and the council due to the “dreadful” experiences.

At a meeting, attended by council officials, held at the Imperial Hotel in the town on Tuesday, one lady said: "When you look at Great Yarmouth, we’re inundated with HMOs.

"I think it would be better to get HMOs up and running correctly as the borough looks appalling.

"You can see that we are all wanting to comply.

"It just seems crazy everything is against us with landlords."

A spokesman for Great Yarmouth Borough Council said it is working to identify properties in the area........
