Trump’s Polling Is Getting Into George W. Bush Territory
At this moment in his second term, it’s very difficult to find bright spots for Donald Trump — other than the perpetual loyalty of his MAGA base — in polling on his performance as president. He’s beginning to resemble George W. Bush in the latter stages of his second term, or Joe Biden in much of his last year in office, as a chief executive a majority of the electorate has all but written off.
A few recent high-quality polls were exceptionally bad for Trump. An April 26 survey from Pew Research Center placed his job approval at a dreadful 34 percent with 64 percent disapproval. This minus-30-percent net approval reflects quite the slide from the minus-24 percent Pew showed in January and minus-18 percent found last September. An April 28 poll from ABC–Washington Post similarly placed his approval-disapproval ratio at 37 percent to 62 percent. The minus-25-percent net approval is down from minus-21 percent in February and minus-18 percent last October. TIPP, another solid pollster sponsored by hyperconservative Issues & Insights, showed his job approval as of May 1 at 38 percent with 54 percent disapproval.
