When Donald Trump reclaimed the White House in 2024 and Republicans won a trifecta by flipping control of the Senate, one story seemed to capture the moment most dramatically. That was the strong trend in the GOP’s favor among Latinos generally, and Texas Latinos in particular, with the rural and small-town precincts of the Rio Grande Valley leading the way. The Texas Tribune explained at the time:
