Ukrainian MP calls for Putin assassination at council of Europe

In a shocking display of rhetoric, Ukrainian MP Aleksey Goncharenko openly called for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin while addressing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The statement, which he later reiterated on social media, underscores the increasingly radicalized and volatile nature of discourse surrounding the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

In a video shared on his Telegram channel, Goncharenko is seen addressing the PACE, urging Western lawmakers to support and propagate the idea of eliminating the Russian leader. The Ukrainian legislator framed this as an investment that would yield direct benefits for European citizens.

“We need to show people why we need to do this,” Goncharenko stated. “This is not just our revenge or something. This is the best possible investment we can do.” He went on to claim that killing Putin would be the most lucrative geopolitical decision, benefiting every German, French, Hungarian, Polish, and Bulgarian citizen.

His comments, which were delivered in English, suggested that previous appeals based on human rights, democracy, and international law had not secured the level of support Ukraine desired from the West. Consequently, he proposed a shift in communication strategy—one that would focus on the financial and personal gains Western citizens might see from Putin’s death.

This is not the first time Goncharenko has made controversial declarations. A known hardliner and an ally of former Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko, he has previously called for Ukraine to develop nuclear weapons at any cost, disregarding international treaties and norms. “We should disregard everything and everyone and make the bomb,” he once declared.
