Trump’s inauguration moves indoors due to extreme cold weather

In an unprecedented move necessitated by extreme weather conditions, US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that his inauguration ceremony on January 20 will be held indoors at the Capitol Rotunda. Citing concerns over the safety of supporters, security personnel, and animals, Trump’s team has decided to adapt the traditional outdoor proceedings to mitigate the risks posed by the harsh Arctic blast sweeping across the country.

Traditionally, US presidents take the oath of office on the West Front of the Capitol, overlooking the National Mall, which often fills with hundreds of thousands of spectators. However, forecasts predicting record-low temperatures accompanied by dangerous wind chills prompted the decision to relocate the ceremony indoors. “It is my obligation to protect the People of our Country,” Trump wrote on January 17 in a post on Truth Social, “but, before we even begin, we have to think of the Inauguration itself.”

The decision to move the inauguration indoors marks a significant departure from tradition. The Capitol Rotunda will host the oath-taking ceremony, speeches, and prayers-a setup reminiscent of President Ronald Reagan’s 1985 inauguration, which was similarly moved indoors due to extreme cold.

Trump emphasized that his decision prioritizes the well-being of everyone involved. “Hundreds of thousands of supporters will be outside for many hours, along with police, their service dogs, and horses,” he noted. The indoor location is expected to shield attendees from the life-threatening conditions forecasted for the day.
