Scientists are tracking a massive dark patch slowly spreading across the surface of Mars, specifically within a huge basin called Utopia Planitia.
While this may sound like the expository info dump from the opening seconds of a trailer for a movie about the alien invasion, it likely has a logical, non-scary explanation. The problem is, researchers don’t yet know what that explanation is. So, for now, it’s best not to let your imagination run too far ahead of the evidence.
