Dems talked tough, but seem ready to end their shutdown shenanigans
As Democrats refuse to reopen the government, they are clearly trying to get under Republicans’ skin, while looking like “fighters” to their voters.
Meanwhile, I don’t think their biggest nemesis, President Donald Trump, is thinking about them at all.
A month into this self-imposed government shutdown, Democrats face much more risk than Republicans do. They seem to be finally realizing that, however, and it appears that it’s just a matter of days before they cave.
And I’m here for it.
Senate Democrats decided they wouldn’t support a clean funding bill and have tried to force Republican support for a mess they created with expiring pandemic-era Obamacare subsidies. (More on that shortly.) They’ve voted more than a dozen times to keep the government closed.
Now that the consequences of the shutdown are getting very real for many Americans, including the withholding of some important Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits, Democrats are starting to get uncomfortable with their tough talk.
