Commentary: Help children get the behavioral health care they urgently need

Three out of four children in New York who need Medicaid-funded behavioral health services are not getting them. That statistic is upsetting, but it is not surprising.

For years, New York has underfunded children’s mental health care. Medicaid reimbursement rates have not accounted for the complex, time-intensive and demanding work of caring for children. The result is fewer providers to deliver care.
