New Delhi: Outrage and condemnation have followed the Bengal Police’s registration of a case against the news outlet Maktoob Media over a social media post that reported on allegations by Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra noting that Muslim IAS and IPS officers were excluded from meetings during Union home minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state.

The Press Club of India has condemned the decision, and called it an attack on press freedom. It has urged Bengal Police to withdraw the FIR, saying, “These allegations were made public by a Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and have been reported widely. There has been no official denial; yet the police have gone ahead with filing an FIR on the matter.”
