New Delhi: Protesting Jamia Millia Islamia students have called off their hunger strike after the university’s registrar met them and assured them of a definite timeline for a student union constitution and to hold elections, said reports on Thursday, October 29. At the same time, two students and National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists, Zeeshan Khan and Mohd Faizan, were sent to Tihar Jail hours earlier on Thursday.

Both students, who were detained outside the university on Wednesday, were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Amar Colony Police Station at 2 pm on Thursday. Zeeshan heads the NSUI unit at JMI.

The news of their detention in Tihar, which is to last for three days as per a report in the New Indian Express, comes on the same day JMI’s administration assured a student body election would be held at the university in August next year.
