India Summons US Diplomat, Lodges Fresh Protest Over Third Tanker Attack

New Delhi: Amid mounting outrage over the killing of three Indian sailors in a US military attack on a commercial vessel, the ministry of external affairs on Friday (June 12) summoned the US embassy’s chargé d’affaires for the second time this week to protest the striking of a third ship in the Gulf of Oman, which was crewed largely by Indian nationals.

US embassy deputy chief of mission Jason Meeks was called to the ministry’s headquarters at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan around 2 pm and met additional secretary (Americas) Nagaraj Naidu.

As per officials, the MEA conveyed India’s concern over the latest incident involving the Guinea-Bissau flagged tanker MT Jalveer, which carried 20 Indian crew members.

The diplomatic démarche comes two days after New Delhi summoned Meeks to protest the June 10 attack on the Palau flagged tanker MT Settebello, in which three Indian sailors were killed. It is understood that US ambassador Sergio........
