New Delhi: The opposition INDIA bloc is set to step up its ongoing campaign against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls with a public impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation on Friday (October 30), ahead of its rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday (November 1).

The public impeachment will be held at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence, after attempts to hold the event at Ramlila Maidan and Ashoka Hotel did not receive permission from authorities. A meeting of INDIA bloc leaders was held at Kharge’s residence on Thursday to give final contours to the plan for Friday.

The Wire has learnt that at the programme, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will preside over the proceedings. Kharge, who is also leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha will begin the proceedings, while leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will give the concluding remarks.
