Allahabad HC Quashes Preventive Detention of DU Graduate Akriti Chaudhary Under NSA For NOIDA Workers' Protest

New Delhi: The Allahabad high court has quashed the preventive detention of Aakriti Chaudhary, a history graduate from Delhi University, under the National Security Act (NSA).
The order was passed by a two-judge bench comprising Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Achal Sachdev after hearing a habeas corpus petition challenging Chaudhary’s detention.
She will continue to remain in custody as she is yet to secure bail in other cases slapped on her in connection with the workers’ protest that took place in Noida in April.
Aakriti’s father, Arun Chaudhary told The Wire that he was happy with the Allahabad high court’s decision, saying that he had always expected such a decision from the court because his daughter had done nothing wrong. He said, “We already knew that she had never done anything wrong, and we knew that this was bound to happen. It was a little delayed, but it happened. I am very happy and relieved now.”
He said he was present in court during the hearing. According to him, during the hearing, the court repeatedly asked the state counsel to produce evidence showing that Aakriti had engaged in violence, assaulted anyone, pelted stones, or instigated protesters to commit violence.
