NYC Jews targeted in hate crimes more than all other groups combined in 2025 — NYPD
NEW YORK — Jews were targeted in hate crimes more than all other groups combined last year in New York City, according to NYPD data released on Tuesday.
The police reported 330 antisemitic incidents in the US city out of 576 total suspected hate crimes there in 2025.
The antisemitic incidents amounted to 57 percent of the total hate crimes reported to police, and represented a suspected anti-Jewish incident every 26 hours.
Jews make up around 10 percent of the city’s population.
There were 25 incidents targeting Asians, 45 against Black people, eight against Hispanic people, 30 Islamophobic incidents, 11 against white people, 28 based on gender, 16 against unspecified ethnicities and 31 targeting unspecified religious groups.
Antisemitic incidents were more than six times higher than the next most-targeted category, the 52 attacks motivated by sexual orientation.
The figures do not represent hate crime convictions, but suspected incidents. The statistics are subject to change, and the incidents reclassified as non-bias incidents, if investigators are unable to determine a discriminatory motive.
Hate crime convictions are relatively rare because investigators need to prove bias, a high legal bar. Hate crimes are treated as more severe than incidents lacking a bias motive because they are seen as targeting a group, and convictions........
