Settlers attacked several Palestinian towns and villages overnight Saturday, torching two mosques, a home and several vehicles and spraying graffiti claiming “revenge” for the killing of an Israeli in a deadly clash as violence continued to engulf the West Bank, the IDF and Palestinian reports said.

A wave of settler violence surged over the weekend after two Israelis — a member of a settler civilian security team and an IDF officer — were killed during a deadly confrontation on Friday. Four Palestinians were also killed during the incident.

Palestinian media reported that settlers raided the village Qusra, south of Nablus overnight and set fire to a mosque. Footage from the scene showed the building in flames along with spray-painted Hebrew graffiti reading “Benayahu’s Revenge,” along with a Star of David and other messages.

No injuries were reported in the arson.

Qusra Mayor Abdul Azim Wadi told the Palestinian Authority’s official news agency, WAFA, that settlers set fire to the under-construction Al-Rahma Mosque. The fire damaged wooden materials and equipment at the site.

The graffiti was apparently a reference to Benayahu Mellet, the civilian security squad member from the Havat Gilad settlement who, along with an army commander, was shot and killed in the Palestinian village of Tell on Friday.

Mellet’s rifle was grabbed from him amid a confrontation between residents of the village and a group of Israelis, which included armed men and minors. Mellet and IDF officer Maj. Yuval Ezra were killed in an ensuing exchange of fire, as were four Palestinians. The army has said the Israelis did not coordinate with them before entering the area, which is off-limits to Israelis; Palestinians have said the Israelis attacked the village before the deadly confrontation.

In the wake of that incident, extremist settlers have carried out a weekend of violent assaults on Palestinians, accompanied by calls to avenge Mellet.
