I Kept Refreshing the News, But It Never Got Better

I don’t spend most of my evenings clicking from one news site to another. On most days, I need to read a couple of headlines to get the gist of things, and then I can go back to work or do something else that demands my attention. This week, however, was different. Every time I looked at my phone, there was a fresh message regarding the US, Iran, or Israel. I kept telling myself over and over again that I would read just one article, get it, and move on.

I genuinely thought the next report would finally say things were improving.

But every refresh only made things worse. One source referenced new American strikes against Iranian targets. Another was regarding Iran’s response. There were also updates on the peace talks, on shipping, on oil prices, and on growing fears that the violence could extend to other regions of the region. But the more I read, the more I noticed that this had no obvious beginning or end. All this was happening at the same moment, and no one knew where it was headed.

One news........
