Shalom Brasil Tests Paulistanos’ Perceptions of Jews

Lilian Hollender, from the program Shalom Brasil, conducted a street survey in São Paulo to hear residents’ opinions about Jews.

According to the Report on Antisemitism in Brazil – Current Panorama (2025) and Trends, prepared by the Brazilian Israelite Confederation (Conib), the findings reveal a troubling scenario:

28% consider it legitimate to claim that Jews hold excessive power in finance and media;

37% believe it is legitimate to say that Jews, in general, achieve greater financial success than others;

26% validate concerns about the supposed power of the “Zionist lobby.”

Hollender explains that these stereotypes trace back to Tsarist Russia, with the publication of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a forged document designed to incite hatred against Jews. Unfortunately, such ideas continue to circulate worldwide in 2026.

The Conib report also notes that in 2025, 115,970 antisemitic mentions were identified, with a potential reach of more than 66 million people.

This scenario underscores the urgent need not only to monitor and classify antisemitic expressions in digital environments but also to establish effective strategies to confront and reduce their spread.
